The Purpose

Tarva and Alambil documents the interesting, practical, and beautiful things I learn as I live—because I really do learn something new every day.

The Name

The name Tarva and Alambil comes from C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia. Tarva and Alambil are planets in the Narnian sky whose conjunction was an auspicious sign foretold by prophecy:

“Look well upon them. Their meeting is fortunate and means some great good for the sad realm of Narnia. Tarva, the Lord of Victory, salutes Alambil, the Lady of Peace.”

—Doctor Cornelius (Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis)

“Tarva and Alambil have met in the halls of high heaven….”

—Glenstorm Centaur (Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis)

The Person

Tarva Salutes is really called Amanda. She believes in improvement and progression and enjoys provident living. She reads quite a lot, might be described as “over-organized”, enthusiastically pursues a program of summer adventures, watches Bollywood movies, crochets, and aspires to travel to New Zealand (and India—but she is afraid of the culture shock).

In her professional life, Tarva Salutes is a technical writer and freelance editor. She truly likes writing instruction manuals and she really likes copyediting. Yes, she knows that you didn’t actually read the manual…

Tarva Salutes is a believing and practicing Latter-day Saint.
